This site contains several oils, collages and poems of the artist.
Loukas was greatly influenced by several European artists who taught him the fundamental basics of drawing, although he considered himself to be autodidact-self-tought artist. He held his first exhibition in Chios in 1954 and three years later he exhibited at the British Council in Athens.
After the Second World War, becoming an adult, he worked in Greece in international trade companies before settling in Montreal in 1960. Although he was interested in art since his youth, it was only after retiring from his work as a shipping agent in 1988 that he was fortunate to dedicate himself entirely to painting. Recognition came very quickly to Dimitri Loukas who, until his untimely death on February 3, 2010, presented his works in several exhibitions, individually and in groups. Prolific artist, he left behind several paintings and collages, and a collection of drawings and poems in Greek and French, fragments of which will be presented here. HIS STYLE Louka's unique style distorts landscapes, objects and figures by multiplying space and colour through a logical organization of fluid lines. It is a style which characterizes Loukas-a style which allows him to perpetually research the pictorial elements of his paintings. He is constantly shaping and duplicating his subjects in different facets. With a harmony of pronounced and clear colour tones, he gives life to his themes, carrying away the viewer's eye to infinity.
